My mother, Elizabeth (Pettingill) Hunt, was born on April the 15th, 1944. Her life on the farm in Readfield, Maine, was not an easy one. As a young girl, her father left the family, and eventually, he and my grandmother, Lydia, divorced.

My Grandma was faithful in taking her children to church at the little Baptist church in Dunns Corner. Mom accepted Jesus in June 1948 at the age of 4 during Day Vacation Bible School at a Baptist Church in Rumford, Maine.  Her Aunt Eris, who later became a missionary to Papua New Guinea , led her to Christ.

After high school, Mom went to Glen Cove Bible College in Glen Cove, near Brunswick, Maine. It was there that she met my dad, Larry Hunt. They were married in June 1965.

After finishing Bible college, my dad and Mom moved to the village of Brooks, Maine, where my dad started the Brooks Bible Church. I was born in Brooks and have my earliest memories from there.

Dad moved our growing family to Virginia and then later to Colorado. My mom was a faithful wife, supporting my dad as he sought to find the next place in ministry. When I was eight, we moved back to the state of Maine because my dad suffered a nervous breakdown. Through all the chaos and trauma of the next ten years, Mom was a rock. Her faith was strong, her love for Jesus remained steadfast, and her example of faithfulness deeply impacted my life.

Mom is celebrating her 80th birthday on this day. I am so thankful for her godly influence and the legacy she has created for her children, her grandchildren, and now her great-grandchildren.

Mom, Happy birthday, and thank you for being my prayer warrior all these years in Africa!

I love you.

  3. Betty,

I wish you a very happy birthday! Even though we were only able to spend a few months knowing each other, you have always been a wonderful example of a godly Christian woman. I enjoyed being your backyard renter for a few months.

Hopefully Betty will receive this Happy Birthday even though it has been 5 years since she celebrated her 80th! I just came across this post and hope she sees it. Betty did everything well. Sewing, keeping house, mother, wife and especially cook. She made the BEST old fashioned donuts I have ever tasted! Our families made that trip to Virginia and eventually back to Maine. She never seemed tired but jumped in with excitement and gusto no matter what-an amazing woman of God-never complaining but praying for the best. I loved seeing her picture and her beautiful face and lovely white hair. Mine is white now, too. Happy Birthday, Betty, I love you, Belinda
