If you are like me, there have been times when we have found ourselves in a mess. We make a wrong decision or two, and suddenly our lives are in chaos. Life is filled with trouble. But God has given us a promise in Psalm 50:15: “Call unto me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me.”
The Factory Lesson
A story illustrates this truth well: In a factory where delicate fabrics were woven, operators were required to press a button when threads became tangled. This button summoned the foreman to untangle the mess. On one occasion, however, an experienced woman thought she could disentangle the threads without the foreman’s help, but she made things much worse. When the foreman finally came, she said, “I did my best, sir.”
His answer was simple: “Remember that doing your best is to send for me.”
Our Tendency to Pull and Tug
How often do we do the same thing? When things become tangled in our lives, we instinctively start pulling and tugging, trying to fix things ourselves. We think our experience, our skills, or our determination will be enough. But the more we pull and tug, the worse the problem becomes.
Doing our best means sending for the Master and asking Him to straighten things out for us.
He Delivers and Receives Glory
He will deliver us. He will reach into our lives and gently unravel the impossible mess we find ourselves in. As He places His fingers of mercy and grace upon the situation, our hearts are filled with awe at how the impossible becomes possible, failure transforms into fruitfulness, and the flawed becomes beautiful.
He delivers, and He receives the glory. Let us remember that doing our best is sending for the Master.
