Strong teamwork is critical for fulfilling our mission at Central Africa Baptist University. But what does biblical teamwork look like? We’ve identified three core values that must mark our team dynamics: humility, flexibility, and transparency.

Humility

For any team to function well, we must all approach each other and our work humbly before God. A “me, my, I” attitude will grind productivity and unity to a halt. Our mindset has to be “not my will, but Yours be done, Lord.” Pride and anger are toxic to any relationship, and we must guard against them constantly.

As teammates, we’re called to have the same attitude as Christ – considering others more significant than ourselves and looking out for their interests, not just our own (Philippians 2). True humility creates an atmosphere of mutual respect where each person’s voice can be heard.

Flexibility

We must also extend flexibility to one another, realizing there is often more than one good way to accomplish a task. My preferred approach is not automatically the best or only approach. If a teammate strongly disagrees on an issue, we should, whenever possible, table the matter for prayer as we seek God’s unified direction.

Our team decisions must consistently align with the greater values, vision, and mission God has entrusted to CABU. If a team member expresses concern that a decision may not align with those overarching goals, we must evaluate that concern objectively and humbly.

Transparency

Finally, transparency is paramount for teammates to fully understand and trust one another. We must have open lines of communication with no hidden agendas or manipulative tactics – no secrets from each other. Team ministry is like a marriage; to be healthy, we must love one another deeply, preferring each other’s needs over our own, and continually communicate.

A humble, flexible, transparent team creates an environment of trust, vulnerability, and unity. We become positioned to make wise decisions, uphold the highest standards of integrity, and ultimately see God’s purposes accomplished through our shared labors. Let’s embrace and model these core values as we work together for the gospel!
