As the Vice-Chancellor at Central Africa Baptist University, I’m often asked about the core purpose that drives our institution. At its heart, our mission is straightforward. Our purpose is: “Training the next generation of servant-leaders in Africa for Great Commission living.”

We exist to raise up an army of African men and women who are equipped to love and serve God across this vast continent. Our vision is to develop leaders who are:

  • God-centered in their thinking
  • Grounded in the Word of God
  • Ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit
  • Focused on serving others
  • Committed to the Great Commission through evangelism and discipleship.
  • Revival-oriented in their prayer lives

Ultimately, we aim to accomplish this for the glory of God and the good of others, governed by Scripture and directed by the Spirit.

The substance of our purpose goes beyond academics or social activities, though those are noble goals. Our primary focus is theological and ministry-oriented: preparing servant-leaders in Africa for Great Commission living.

When we talk about training Christian servants, the emphasis isn’t merely on service activities or humility but on the master/servant relationship. The key issue is whether an individual is rightly related to their ultimate authority – God Himself. The question isn’t just what they are doing, but whether they are submitted to God’s Word and to all God-given authorities in their lives.

When we speak of training Christian leaders, the primary focus is on influence. Spiritual leadership boils down to the ability to influence others in a God-ward direction. Our goal is to prepare young people so that no matter where they end up or what role they fill, they will impact those around them by pointing them toward Christ.

This is the driving force behind CABU. We labor so that Africa might be filled with servant-leaders wholly devoted to the Lord and His Great Commission. It’s a vision that keeps us pressing on, day by day.
