A parasite is a small living organism that can only be seen through a microscope. In many places in Africa, mosquitoes carry a parasite called malaria.

One day a little boy by the name of Chomba went to play football with his friends. He loves to play. All they need is a soccer ball and two stones to set up as goal posts. It was a very hot afternoon, and Chomba played hard, he even scored the winning goal for his team! After going home in the evening, he began to feel very weak, tired and his head hurt. He fell asleep on the couch and when his mom woke him for supper he had no appetite. She felt his head and it was very hot – Chomba had a high fever. Have you ever felt sick with a fever?
Chomba slept hard through the night, though one time he woke up sick to his stomach. Early in the morning, his mother took Chomba to the clinic. The lab technician took a small pin and pricked his finger and then squeezed a drop of blood onto a piece of glass called a “slide”. The doctor took the blood on the slide and put it under a microscope. Do you know what the doctor saw in that drop of blood? Little parasites swimming around in the drop of blood! These parasites are malaria parasites. You get them by being bitten by an infected mosquito. Once the parasite enters your body from the bite of the mosqueto, it swims around and begins to reproduce itself over and over until finally the host – this case Chomba felt very sick. If Chomba does not get the malaria treatment, the parasite will continue to attack his blood cells until finally Chomba will die.

Malaria is a parasite that can only be seen through a microscope! Some mosquito’s in Africa carry the parasite, and give it to humans when they bite them.
Thankfully there are very effective medicines that kill the malaria parasite in the blood, and Chomba will make a full recovery in about three days time. Did you know that once the parasite has been killed, a doctor can still see it in the blood for up to 10 years!
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
You see, we are fearfuly and wonderfully made, with ever part of our body working flawlessly with every other part! God made us this way. But due to sin, sicknesses like malaria became part of our world.
One day Jesus will return and destroy all sin and diseases. And take all who believe in Him to heaven where there is no more malaria. Have you asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins, and make you His child?
