Dear Friend,
Here is an urgent request for prayer.
Zambia is now experiencing a severe nationwide electricity shortage that began in April. Power outages lasting 15-18 hours per day are common, with expectations of further rationing as the year progresses. This crisis has significantly affected businesses and organizations across the country.
Our operations on the campus at Central Africa Baptist University have been sustained through the use of a diesel generator. But this stopgap measure has proven financially unsustainable, with operating costs exceeding $60 per hour.
In response to the ongoing power crisis, the Zambian government has eliminated all taxes and duties on solar equipment, creating an opportunity for long-term, cost-effective solutions.
To make sure uninterrupted operations continue to serve our students, faculty, and staff, we wish to install a solar power system for each of our buildings. The proposed solution addresses the current energy deficit while aligning with government incentives and sustainable practices.
Moreover, this investment offers long-term benefits beyond the current crisis. Should the local electric utility normalize supply in the future, we will continue operating primarily on our own system, relying on the utility only when our demands exceed our supply. This approach ensures continued long-term savings and energy independence.
We will be happy to give you a detailed breakdown of the $136,966 project costs, showing each building categorized by solar requirements. We praise the Lord for a matching donation of $50k and the first $20k toward that match that has been received. The balance needed for this solar project is $66,966. All funds received will go toward the purchase and installation of solar on the campus.
Would you pray with us for God’s provision? You can also help spread the word by sharing this with those who will consider investing in God’s work at CABU.
Thank you for your prayers for the work of God here in Africa!
Phil Hunt
President, Central Africa Baptist University
