On July 17, 2024, our CABU community lost a devoted servant of God, Pastor Miller Pephias Chungwe. Born on October 10, 1983, Miller lived a life dedicated to his faith, family, and the churches he shepherded. He leaves behind a wife, Given Siloka, and three children, Miller Jr., Bright and Gideon, whose lives he enriched with his love and spiritual guidance.

Pastor Miller Chungwe – 10 October 1983 – 17 July 2024

Miller’s journey in ministry began in 2019 when he was sent by the Baptist Fellowship of Zambia to plant Eureka Baptist Church. Recognizing the need for further education to serve Christ and His church more effectively, he enrolled at Central Africa Baptist University (CABU) in 2020. His commitment to growth and learning was evident as he balanced his studies, family life, and church responsibilities.

In early 2024, Miller shared with his CABU mentorship group the news of his calling and ordination as the lead pastor at Kawama Baptist Church. He approached this new role with a mix of humility and sobriety, aware of both the privilege and the weight of responsibility it entailed. In an April 7th Facebook Post, Miller wrote, “It was sober moment as Pastor Daka Richard Snr handed over the church history file to me to take over as a pastor of Kawama Baptist Church, please pray for me.”

Miller’s impact on CABU was significant. As a third-year Bible student and dorm supervisor, he exemplified the university’s values of honesty, obedience, wisdom, and service. His gentle leadership and ability to resolve conflicts with kindness left a lasting impression on both staff and fellow students.

On the day of his passing, Miller reached out to his CABU Mentorship group, asking for prayer as he had been ill for nearly a week. His last message, a simple thank you for their prayers, came just hours before he went to be with the Lord.

The outpouring of love and respect for Miller was evident at his memorial service, where over 700 people gathered to honor his life and testimony. Pastor Morris Mwansa delivered a powerful sermon, challenging young men to follow Miller’s example of consecrating their lives to serve Christ.

Gideon Mpeni, CABU’s Dean of Students, paid tribute to Miller, describing him as a true “CABU Lion” who embodied Christ-likeness and passion for the Great Commission. His legacy at the university will continue to inspire future generations of students and leaders.

CABU will honor the memory of Pastor Miller Chungwe by establishing a Scholarship in his memory for men from the Baptist Fellowship of Zambia who will step forward to take Miller’s place and prepare for ministry in 2025.

As we remember Miller Chungwe, we celebrate a life well-lived for the glory of God. His dedication to his faith, his family, and his calling serves as an inspiration to all who knew him. We are reminded of the words in Revelation 14:13: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on… that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”

Miller Chungwe’s impact on his family, his congregations at Eureka Baptist and Kawama Baptist, and the CABU community will be felt for years to come. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the lasting legacy of faith, service, and inspiration he leaves behind.

May his soul rest in eternal peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and may his family and the communities he served find comfort in the memories of his life and the impact of his ministry.
