My Dear Children,

As your father, I want to share with you the deepest desires of my heart for your lives. My hope for each of you isn’t tied to worldly success or achievements. Instead, my greatest wish is for you to have a thriving, vibrant walk with Jesus Christ.

Remember this: it doesn’t matter what you accomplish in this life if those accomplishments aren’t for God’s glory. The only things that will endure for eternity are those done for the Lord Jesus Christ. So, my fervent prayer is that each of you will live a life fully surrendered to Jesus – loving Him, honoring Him, and serving Him all your days.

When you were little, night after night, when I tucked you in, I would pray over you. I asked God that you would come to know Jesus as your Savior and grow up to be men and women of God. That’s still my prayer today – that you’ll be godly men and women, living in complete devotion to Christ for His glory.

There’s a saying that resonates deeply with me: “Only one life will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” At the end of your life, the activities and achievements will seem empty unless they are done with eternity in view. I urge you to live with the unwavering assurance that God loves you and that He is all-powerful and capable of accomplishing every good work in and through you. Let your affections and energy be spent on what will last.

Only one life will soon be past.

Only what’s done for Christ will last.

It would break my heart to see you get caught up in worldly pursuits, forgetting the very purpose God brought you into this world. Everything in our lives – our daily routines, our jobs, our families – are providential means through which we grow in our practical knowledge and application of who God is. He intends for us to steward all these areas as opportunities for gospel proclamation and discipleship of others as followers of Christ.

I know that as I write this, not all of you are married. But one day you may be, you may have children of your own – sons and daughters who will look up to you. Your actions and words will profoundly impact their lives. What you value can’t be hidden, and the children who look to you will inherit those values. So I implore you: love Christ and love what He loves. Seek to put Him first, even in the midst of your human frailties and imperfections.

My prayer is that wherever God leads you, and for however many years He gives you, you’ll invest your life for Christ and the advancement of His kingdom. Don’t live in a way that will lead to regret; look back and realize you’ve wasted your life and opportunities.

These are the prayers I continually lift up for you. I’m deeply honored to be your father, and I love each one of you more than words can express.

With all my love and hope in Christ,

Dad
