“United in Mission: Kitwe Church’s Vision for Global Evangelism

A missionary (missions) covenant is a short, memorable statement describing the church’s commitment to a global mission. This Covenant serves as a tool to unify the church in fulfilling the Great Commission both corporately and individually. The Missionary Covenant is a companion to the Mission Policy. While the Mission Policy is inward-focused, describing the mission and prescribing procedures, the Mission Covenant is outward-looking, describing what action the church is committed to taking. This Covenant should be reviewed publicly by the church body at least annually.

Missionary Covenant for Kitwe Church

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?” Romans 10:14

Believing:

  • That God “desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1Tim. 2:4)
  • That Christ’s death fully atones for “our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world.” (1 Jn. 2:2)
  • That the Holy Spirit empowers us for witnessing unto Him “unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8)
  • And realizing that the Savior’s last command ought to be our first concern,
  • And that the Great Commission, having never been rescinded or modified, must be obeyed. (Mt. 28:18-20)

We, therefore, do individually and corporately:

  • Acknowledge our moral obligations to live and labor for the evangelization of all mankind;
  • Accept the responsibility to do our share in taking or sending the Gospel “to the regions beyond.” (2 Cor. 10:16)
  • And affirm our loyalty to Christ by aiding and abetting the “preaching of His name among all nations!” (Lk. 24:47)

Hence…

The Lord helping us, we commit in the future to:

  • Pray more frequently, fervently, and more specifically, for missionaries, both foreign and national;
  • Contribute more generously to missions “As God shall prosper,” periodically reviewing our material possessions in relation to the worldwide extension of the Kingdom of Christ. (1 Cor. 16:2)
  • Dedicate ourselves more fully to the unfinished task entrusted to us, knowing we dare not appear before the judgment seat of Christ without having done our utmost to make “the Gospel, which is the Power of God unto salvation,” available “to every creature.”(Rom. 1:16, Mk. 16:15)
