In my ministry, I try to preach in a way that is understandable to the primary-aged children at Kitwe Church. My goal is to use imagery, words, and explanations that can be grasped by the children so that they can comprehend the gospel and the deeper aspects of the Christian life. I believe that if the children are able to understand, the adults will have no difficulty as well.

Our family prayer card from 2012

I was saved by the Lord Jesus when I was just shy of five years old. I realized that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. One day, my dad asked me to say grace before our family meal, but instead, I asked Jesus to be my Savior. Each of our own children has come to know the Lord in their adolescence. Never underestimate the power of the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of children.

My greatest desire is for children to have their hearts regenerated by Christ so that they do not have to spend their lives recovering from the destructive effects of the world’s corrupt ways.

Charles Spurgeon, the renowned Baptist preacher of the 19th century, was dedicated to spreading the gospel among children. As a result of his efforts, both of his sons, Charles and Thomas, became believers and went on to become preachers themselves. Spurgeon also left behind many quotes about raising children in a Godly way, here are eight:

“As soon as a child is capable of being lost, it is capable of being saved.”

“Whether we teach young Christians truth or not, the devil will be sure to teach them error.”

“Children will imitate their fathers in their vices, seldom in their repentance.”

“If we never have headaches through rebuking our children, we shall have plenty of heartaches when they grow up.”

“What a blessing to have our children enlisted in Christ’s army!”

“If you want the eminent men in God’s Church, look for them amongst those converted in youth.”

“It is not very easy, I know, to preach Christ to little children, but there is nothing else worth preaching.”

“Give us the first seven years of a child, with God’s grace, and we may defy the world, the flesh, and the devil.”
